Stay by the promenade or in the town centre for the beach, surf schools and indoor swimming. Choose Liscannor Road if golf is the priority.

Best for most people
Promenade and beachfront
Best for: Beach time, surfing and family activities
- Walkable
- Car not needed
The sandy beach and promenade are the centre of a seaside visit. Surf schools use the seafront, and the leisure centre adds indoor swimming when the sea is unsuitable.
Watch out: This is an Atlantic surf beach. Follow beach notices and local instructions for swimming and time on the sand.
Town centre behind the promenade
Best for: A mixed stay with beach access
- Walkable
- Car useful
Choose the centre for days that alternate between the beach, surf lessons and the town. You can return to your room between activities. A rural address would mean driving back into town.
Watch out: A central room does not provide transport to the cliffs, Doolin Pier or Burren attractions. Those remain separate outings.
Liscannor Road and the golf side
Best for: A stay built around booked golf
- Partly walkable
- Car useful
Lahinch Golf Club lists its location on Liscannor Road, with the Old Course and Castle Course offering different rounds. Stay on this side if your golf booking is the main reason for the trip.
Watch out: Match your room to the course and meeting point you booked. You may still need transport to the beach.
Staying by the promenade
The promenade suits a first Lahinch stay. Lahinch Surf Experience lists its base at the end of the beach promenade, and Bens Surf Clinic operates from the seafront. A room around this area suits a visit with a lesson, time on the sand and a return to town between activities. Choose a surf lesson before deciding how much of the day remains for another outing.
The beach is crescent-shaped and used for surfing, sea kayaking and other water activities. Sea conditions may still be unsuitable for swimming. Follow the beach noticeboard and local guidance. For children, time on the sand need not include entering the sea. If the water is unsuitable, take a short promenade walk instead, as long as the weather and local instructions allow it.
Stay in the town centre behind the promenade if a sea view is less important than using Lahinch on foot. You can return to your room after the beach before heading to another activity. An outlying room means a journey back into town each time. Choose a central address if you want to use Lahinch on foot.
Choose the golf side for the course you booked
The Old Course and Castle Course offer different rounds. Discover Ireland describes the Old Course as using natural slopes and raised greens, while the Castle Course is less hilly and still requires accurate shots. Book the course you want, then choose accommodation for that round. A booking on the other course will give you a different day.
Liscannor Road is the named club address. Stay on that side for golf, then consider how the rest of the group will spend the day. The beach, surf schools and leisure centre give non-golfers their own plans. A mixed group may still prefer the town centre if most evenings and family activities happen there. Choose mainly for course access if you will spend most of the stay playing golf.
Children and a rainy-day base
Lahinch Leisure Centre provides a main swimming pool and learner pool, with pay-as-you-go access described on its own site. Check the leisure centre and activity operators before you go, including access and age requirements for your group. This is a useful reason to stay in town for a family break: a wet day can begin with a swim rather than a long drive to a replacement attraction. Bring swimwear even if the original plan is mostly beach time.
Bens Surf Clinic lists indoor climbing among its activities as well as surfing, kayaking on the River Inagh and archery. Choose an activity and location to suit the group's ages. Some activities take place away from the beach. For a quiet indoor art stop, the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon is another nearby option with separate travel and access arrangements.
Getting to Lahinch and making coastal outings
Discover Ireland's car-free Clare route starts in Ennis, visits the cliffs and includes a Lahinch stop on Bus Eireann route 350. Choose a service for your travel date that uses the stop you need. You can reach Ennis by rail on the Galway to Limerick route, then continue to Lahinch by bus. This lets you stay in central Lahinch without hiring a car. On the transfer day, keep sightseeing light. Allow for carrying boards, a pushchair or luggage from the train to the bus and from the bus stop to your room.
A car is useful when the stay adds Doolin Pier, Aillwee or inland Burren sites. Choose separate days for a ferry departure and the wider Burren rather than attempting to fit both around a surf lesson. For the Cliffs of Moher, use the official visitor entrance. Coastal-path restrictions can prevent a through-walk from a neighbouring village. Use the official access notice when choosing a walk, and reach the visitor entrance by road.
When to choose another Clare base
Choose Doolin if traditional music and a confirmed Aran Islands departure are the main reasons for the stay. Choose Ballyvaughan or Corofin if most days concern the Burren, with Corofin serving the national park information point and seasonal shuttle. Choose Ennis if rail access and town sightseeing lead the trip. Stay in Lahinch if you want several days of beach time, promenade walks or golf.
For one night, keep the visit local. Spend time at the beach, take a lesson or swim in the pool, and explore the town. With more time, add the cliffs as a separate outing and choose one Burren visit. Avoid moving to another nearby village solely to repeat the same coastal sights from a different room. A split stay becomes more useful when it adds another part of Clare or changes the next stage of the trip.
