What to do

Any weather Best on a dry day

An hour or two

  1. The Rougey Walk Dry day

The coastal route links Bundoran's promenade and Main Beach with the headland and the eastern side of town. It suits a first walk around the resort, with views over Donegal Bay and a route from the central beach to the eastern headland.

The visitor route returns through Tullan Strand Road and Main Street, so account for the townward part as well as the coastal path.

  2. The Fairy Bridges Dry day

The eastern headland near Tullan Strand has natural arches and blowholes. Visit for the rock formations and the sea view, especially if a full Rougey circuit would be more walking than wanted.

Treat this as an exposed coastal stop beside the Rougey route and keep children with the group around the rock openings.

  3. Main Beach and the promenade Dry day

Main Beach is reached along the central promenade past Waterworld and the amusements. It suits families wanting beach time close to the resort's other activities, with Tullan Strand as a separate eastern outing.

Pair the beach with the promenade rather than assuming a visit also covers the longer Tullan Strand shore.

  4. The West End coastal walk Dry day

The western walk provides another view of Bundoran and Donegal Bay. Choose it when staying on that side of town or when the group has already used the promenade and wants a different local walk.

Follow the visitor guide's townward return through the West End to finish near the central tourist office area.

  5. Bundoran Glowbowl Any weather

The bowling alley on Main Street is a straightforward indoor choice when the weather cuts short a beach visit. It suits a group wanting to play together after time on the coast, without leaving the resort.

The visitor guide recommends booking, so arrange a lane if bowling is the fixed wet-day plan.

  6. A film at Eclipse Cinemas Any weather

The town's cinema adds another indoor option, particularly for an older family group or an evening after surfing. Choose a film for an afternoon or evening indoors, without leaving the resort for a different town.

The visitor map places the cinema by Station Road, separate from the promenade and Main Street bowling alley.

Half a day

  1. A taught surf session at Tullan Strand Dry day

Bundoran's surf schools offer lessons at Tullan Strand for participants they accept. Book instruction to try the waves; this is a beach for surfing with a school, while the visitor guide advises against casual bathing.

The tourist office advises against bathing at Tullan Strand because of strong rip currents, so use the school's current instruction and conditions.

  2. Waterworld Any weather

Waterworld is an indoor water attraction on Atlantic Way, with larger slides and a toddler pool. Choose the toddler facilities for young children and the larger activities for participants who meet their requirements.

Book through the operator for the facilities you want to use, with supervision suited to the children's ages.

One local seaside day

Begin on the central promenade so Main Beach and the resort's indoor attractions are easy to identify. If the weather suits a longer walk, continue around Rougey towards the Fairy Bridges and Tullan Strand. Return through Tullan Strand Road and Main Street as described in the tourist office's route. You can reach Main Beach, the Fairy Bridges and Tullan Strand on this connected walk. Leave time for the route back through the town as well as the headland path.

For a surf day, start at the school's meeting point and spend the rest of the outing around Tullan Strand. Keep time for the lesson and the beach before heading back to the centre. The West End walk can be saved for another outing. A full beach day does not need an extra trip to Donegal Town or Slieve League, particularly if lessons or indoor bookings already fix part of the day.

Families by age and activity

For toddlers and younger children, compare Main Beach and a short promenade outing with the toddler facilities listed at Waterworld. For young children, put the toddler pool and short seaside walks first, with an adult supervising the water activity. The outdoor plan can stay close to the central resort, with time to return indoors when the group has had enough walking. The full headland circuit can wait for a longer outing.

School-age children may enjoy bowling or a waterpark visit, while older children and teenagers can compare an instructed surf lesson with a film. Surf-school acceptance depends on the operator's actual requirements and the conditions. The Fairy Bridges add a short outdoor stop, but the cliff arches and blowholes need close supervision. Pick bowling, a film or a waterpark activity to suit the children in the group. For the headland, plan close supervision around the rock openings as well as the walk itself.

A Bundoran plan when it rains

Make Waterworld the main indoor activity if it is operating and the group can use its facilities. Bowling is a different option on Main Street, with films at the cinema near Station Road as another choice. Check operators' sites before you go for dates, bookings, films, lesson meeting points and age or supervision rules. Then choose Waterworld, a lane or a film for the wettest part of the day.

If the rain eases, add a short promenade walk rather than automatically returning to the exposed Rougey circuit. The Fairy Bridges and Tullan headland remain outdoor coastal visits. The surf school decides whether a booked session can run in the conditions. If it cannot, spend that part of the day bowling, watching a film or using a suitable Waterworld activity. Save the exposed headland for better weather.

Getting around and what to leave out

Main Street, Atlantic Way and the promenade have activities you can reach on foot during a central Bundoran stay. The town map places Tullan Strand Road on the eastern approach and the West End on the opposite side. Choose the route that fits the starting address and the group's walking plans. Bus Eireann route 480 is listed in the resort's transport guide for the Sligo to Derry corridor.

Skip casual swimming at Tullan Strand: the official visitor guidance advises against it because of rip currents. Skip a rushed wider Donegal loop when the purpose of the visit is a local surf or family holiday. Donegal Town has its own castle, railway and harbour choices, while Inishowen is a separate peninsula trip. Spend a Bundoran stay at its own beaches and coastal paths, with a waterpark visit, bowling or a film between outdoor outings. Give Donegal Town and Inishowen their own days rather than adding them after a lesson.
